headshotSpecialism: Kanzashi Flowers, Judging and Competitions

Many people know Julie from Cake Craft and Decoration magazine as the editor for 12 years, but her roots in cake decorating go back over 35 years. When planning her wedding, Julie decided to make her own cake with the help of two books: one from M&S for the design and one by Evelyn Wallace for the method.

Although a qualified pastry chef, all Julie had ever piped was mashed potato, so this was a major challenge! Thankfully, the cake was a success and a business was born.

Julie joined the British Sugarcraft Guild to learn more and also took the C&G 7800, teacher training exams, plus all the Centra (ABC) exams available in Sugarcraft and passed with Distinctions. Julie has won many Gold Awards across all areas of sugarcraft and judged and demonstrated across the world including in The UK, Holland, America and Ireland.

Julie is a part of the BSG international team and a judge and mentor as well as being involved with training new judges.

As a moderator and examiner for ABC Awards Julie has helped them develop their sugar flower and cake decorating courses while travelling around the UK visiting centres that run the courses. More recently, she has taken part in a collaboration for the Irish shows and developed Kanzashi ribbon work into a sugarcraft technique.
